OVERVIEW

Two layers of protection. One complete insulation system.

Westec® protects the burn room in two ways. On the exposed side, strong stainless steel panels create a durable surface capable of standing up to demanding training exercises. Behind the panels, the Westec® Insulation Blanket helps protect the tower structure from extreme temperatures.

The rigid, ribbed panels resist physical damage while insulated steel channels allow the system to respond to changes in temperature. Together, the components help maintain system integrity, reduce burn room maintenance, and limit training downtime.

Westec® is available in new Fire Facilities fire training towers and can also be retrofitted into existing steel, concrete, or masonry burn buildings.

Material Properties

Six critical components. Engineered to perform as one.

01

High-Temperature Protection

04

High-Pressure Hose Streams

02

Stable Thermal Performance

05

Rust and Freeze Resistance

03

Direct Flame Exposure

06

Impact and Expansion Resistance

Under burn room conditions, panels react to heat in visible ways. Between 300–400°F a panel warps slightly toward the hot face, stretching the surface more than the core — usually seen as fine “spider web” cracks along a fastener line. This does not reduce the insulating value, and once formed the cracks will not grow in size or number.

To avoid severe cracking, follow the installation instructions carefully and never exceed a burning temperature of 1200°F.

THERMAL PERFORMANCE

Creates a complete thermal break.

The two-inch Westec® Insulation Blanket provides the system’s primary thermal barrier. It will not burn, singe, or break down under extreme conditions and remains stable at service temperatures up to 2,300°F.*

Westec® does not use fasteners that pass directly through the insulation blanket into the structural framing. This complete thermal break helps reduce conductive heat transfer and avoids creating concentrated hot points behind the system.

THERMAL EXPANSION

Moves with the heat. Without warping.

Burn room heat causes stainless steel surfaces to expand. Westec® combines insulated steel channels, corrugated panels, and flexible connections that allow the walls and ceiling to move across the length and width of the room.

By accommodating this natural movement instead of restraining it, the system helps prevent panel buckling and warping while maintaining the integrity of the burn room assembly.

SPECIFICATIONS

Engineered for new or existing burn rooms.

01

Two-inch insulation blankets and Type 304 stainless steel face panels protect burn room walls and ceilings.

02

Doors and window shutters are protected with a minimum of one-inch-thick burn room insulating panels.

03

Screw-attached panels and trims allow inspection and maintenance while accommodating thermal expansion.

04

Each burn room includes three thermocouples for temperature monitoring during training.
